Most truck driving jobs require the driver to have a reputable driving record, without any felonies. If you have a criminal record such as Driving Under Influence (DUI), then it might be difficult to score a job with certain companies.
Most companies would not like risking their transport and cargo with such a driver. All is not lost, though, as there are certain situations in which you can get truck driving jobs even if you have a DUI record.
Age of the DUI
The age of your DUI is of major concern when it comes to transportation jobs. If your DUI occurred more than two years ago or over a longer period of time, then it is possible for you to apply for a driving permit if it was cancelled.
If the permit was not cancelled, you can start slow and prove that you have reformed your character, and that you are driving safely. You can start with basic driving jobs and work your way up.
Number of DUIs
The number of times you have been convicted of DUI is another major factor that can negatively impact your career. If you have only one DUI record, then it may be possible for you to start part time and prove that you are no longer a reckless driver.
According to the FMCSA, on your second DUI conviction, your Commercial Driver’s License will be cancelled and you will be restricted from obtaining it for life.
